Ian has over 40 years’ experience of structuring, documenting and negotiating sophisticated financial and other transactions as a partner with Mayer Brown, a leading international law firm. He has also held multiple senior management roles with the firm, including as a member of the senior management committee, co-leader of the global finance practice and chairing the partnership board.

For some 30 years Ian championed and built Mayer Brown's Mining and Africa practices into one of the leading legal specialists worldwide. He has consistently been ranked in multiple guides and publications as one of the leading mining industry lawyers in the world.

Now a senior consultant with Mayer Brown, Ian is developing a number of initiatives in the mining industry as well as acting as a trustee and adviser to a number of non-profit organisations.

Ian has an MA from the University of Cambridge and an LLM from Harvard University. He is qualified as a barrister-at-law (Lincoln's Inn) in England as well as being admitted as a member of the New York bar.
